Sale of the Pickering-Yohe
Collection
The Pickering Yohe Collection of Moroccan Rugs and Textiles
is now being offered for sale on a piece by piece basis. The
collection consists of 129 carpets and textiles woven over the
past 150 years throughout Morocco. Of these, 116 are represented
in the book Moroccan Carpets published in 1994.
This groundbreaking collection was assembled by Brooke Pickering,
Russell Pickering and Ralph Yohe over a thirty year period during
their numerous trips to Morocco beginning in 1971. The material
is drawn from every major weaving area of Morocco and includes
a variety of textiles – covers, shawls, cushions, bags,
and tent trappings – as well as knotted pile carpets and
flatweaves from city, village and tribal looms. The pieces date
from the second half of the 19th century to the third quarter
of the 20th century.
Many of the pieces in the Pickering-Yohe collection have been
published. In addition, a number of pieces have been on display
in major museum exhibitions throughout North America. For more
